Orville "Kenny" K. Brummett

Orville K. “Kenny” Brummett, 81, of New Castle, died Monday at Henry County Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was born November 10, 1928 in New Castle, a son of the late Jonas and Nora (Rowe) Brummett. Kenny served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean War where he dropped supplies to Marines from cargo planes. He was a part of the team that dropped a bridge to stranded Marines at the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir enabling them to escape. He loved people and was an excellent salesman. He began his career at the Gaar Studebaker Dealership and spent several years at Morris Chevrolet. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing cars at Mt. Lawn Speedway. He retired from Logston’s Auto Supply where he sold auto parts throughout Indiana, Illinois and Ohio. During retirement he enjoyed selling at flea markets and fishing. He and his wife, Vivian, whom he married on August 22, 1952, had attended the Wesleyan Methodist Church and also the United Brethren Church. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Vivian (Williams) Brummett; a daughter, Kennetha Guffey of New Castle; two sons, Jeffrey K. (wife: Vanessa) Brummett of New Castle and Charles E. (wife: Gloria) Pleasant of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, David Brummett, Joseph (wife: Amanda) Guffey, Rich (wife: Carla) Guffey, Amanda Brummett, Owen (companion: Kacie) Brummett, and Jeffrey (companion: Heidi) Brummett II all of New Castle, and Charles E. (wife: Sarah) Pleasant III of Greenfield and Brian (wife: Lisa) Pleasant of Westfield; 11 great-grandchildren, Geneva, Brice, Alivia, and Jack Pleasant, Carla and Connor Carroll, Savannah Brummett, Shelby, Elizabeth, Dalton and Isaac Guffey; He is also survived by two sisters, Mary (husband: Herb) Stage of New Castle and Margaret (husband: Joe) Schaad of Avon; three brothers, Jerry (wife: Barbara) Brummett and Harry Brummett both of DeBary, FL and Paul (wife: Phyllis) Brummett of New Castle; four sisters-in-law, Anita (husband: James) Cashdollar of Indianapolis, Judith Cummings and Kaye Williams both of New Castle, and Millie Abel of Sylva, North Carolina; a brother-in-law, Andrew (wife: Nina) Williams of Indianapolis; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Dean Schrolucke; four brothers, Coy, Roy, Harold and Jim Brummett; a step-daughter, Vicki Lynn Pleasant; his father and mother-in-law, Ray and Velma Williams; three brothers-in-law, Danny Williams, Malcolm Abel and Norman Cummings; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at Sproles Family Funeral Home with Rev. Lloyd VanMeter officiating. Military Honors will be provided by a contingent from the American Legion and V.F.W. Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
