Sherri Renee Stockton

Sherri Renee Stockton, 60, of Lewisville, passed away peacefully on the afternoon of Monday, March 9, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the love and care of her family. She was born on September 28, 1965, in Indianapolis, Indiana, a daughter of the late Robert Reed and Levera Mae (Lawton) Hoover. Sherri was a 1983 graduate of Knightstown High School. On August 17, 1990, she married the love of her life, Dale Stockton. Sherri fondly referred to Dale as her “Knight in Shining Armor,” while he lovingly called her his “Princess,” a reflection of the deep affection and partnership they shared throughout their marriage. Sherri was a people person through and through. She never met a stranger and had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. Known for being a straight shooter who spoke from the heart, you always knew exactly where she stood. Her lively personality and contagious laugh could light up any room, and once she started laughing, it was often impossible not to laugh along with her. With a heart of gold, she loved helping others and touched the lives of many. She began her working career as a waitress at the G2 Café in Knightstown. Later, she devoted 16 years to teaching mathematics in the special education department at Tri High School, where she taught algebra I & II, geometry, and trigonometry. Sherri treated every student as if they were her own and was deeply loved and respected by those she taught. She later worked for 11 years at Citizens State Bank before retiring. Sherri had a deep love for animals and was well known for taking in stray animals that needed care. At home, she found joy in the simple pleasures of life—tending flowers, antiquing, and collecting art. She and Dale enjoyed raising a large garden together, and Sherri took great pride in being a master canner. During the Christmas season, family and friends eagerly looked forward to her homemade fudge, which had become something of a tradition. She also shared a close bond with her brother, and the two spent many younger years playing pranks on one another. Above all else, Sherri’s greatest joy was her family. She was especially devoted to her two sons and cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren. Those left to cherish Sherri’s memory include her husband of 36 years, George Dale Stockton; two sons, Travis (Kari) Stockton of North Manchester and Devin Cain Stockton of Mooreland; her beloved “bonus son,” Gage Coffman of New Castle; three grandchildren, Khloe René, Gunnar Wendell, and Jax Barrett Stockton; and a brother, Paul (Ramona) Hoover of New Castle. In addition to her parents, Sherri was preceded in death by her in-laws, George Wendell and Ruby Helen (Marcum) Stockton. Sherri will be remembered for her generous heart, her unmistakable laugh, and the way she made people—and even the occasional stray animal—feel loved and welcome. Her greatest pride was her family, and the love she gave them will continue to live on in each of their lives. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Sproles Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Gene Bennett officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. until the time of the service on Friday at the funeral home.
