Stanley R. Hicks

Stanley R. Hicks, 91, of New Castle, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 in his home. He was born February 14, 1919 in Brownstown, Wisconsin, a son of the late Marvin and Mary Elizabeth (Burchett) Hicks. Stanley had worked at Borg Warner in Muncie and as an auto mechanic for Newby Paul in New Castle. He also did apartment maintenance and general handyman work. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was assigned to Hiroshima immediately following the bombing. He drove the first scientists and doctors into Hiroshima to review the area. He attended the North 14th St. Church of God. He is survived by his wife, Dacie “Pal” (Tabor) Hicks; three daughters, Carolyn Stout of New Castle, Ann (husband: Mike) Selvy of Avon and Jeannie Garner of Indianapolis; ten grandchildren, David Hicks of Omaha, Nebraska, Bob (wife: Carrie) Hicks of Greenfield, Dawn (husband: Lon) Kincaid of New Castle, Sharon Stout of Indianapolis, Karen Stout of Noblesville, Michelle (husband: Scott) Minard of Sugar Hill, GA, Jeff (wife: Mary) Garner of Indianapolis, April (husband: Kirk) Roth of Avon, Shane Hicks of New Castle and Cori (husband: Kirk) Bowser of Ft. Wayne; 14 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wanda (husband: Homer) Crabtree of Rushville and a brother, Lyndon (wife: Helen) Hicks of New Castle. He was preceded in death by his son, Stanley E. “Buddy” Hicks, four brothers, William A., Chester M., Odie G., and Joe W. Hicks; and two sisters, Jorene Hicks and Hope Guffey. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 1, 2011 Sproles Family Funeral Home with Revs. Elwood Evans and Phil Brown officiating. Military honors will be provided by a contingent from the VFW and American Legion. Burial will follow in South Mound West Lawn Addition. Friends may call from 4 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association for research with envelopes available at the funeral home.
