Walker Lee Haney

Walker Lee Haney, 77, of New Castle, died Sunday, June 15, 2008 in his residence. He was born March 7, 1931 in Elder, KY, a son of the late William Clinton and Elizabeth (Crouch) Haney. Walker served in the U.S. Army from 1949 - 1952 and the U.S. Air Force from 1953 – 1974, retiring as Master Sergeant, Superintendent of Weapons System Security, 92nd Security Police Squadron, 92nd Bombardment Wing, Fairchild AFB, Spokane, WA. He was a York Rite Mason, Tokyo, Japan; Master Mason, Square and Compass Lodge 3, Kunitachi, Japan; and a member of the Air Force Security Police Association. He and his wife, Hiroko, were owners & operators of the Flamingo Motel and Restaurant in Dunreith, from 1975 to 1989. Walker enjoyed golf and spending time with friends and family. He is survived by his wife, Hiroko “Ann” (Futami) Haney, whom he married on April 17, 1957; three sons, Michael Lee (wife: Andrea) Haney of Puyallup, WA, Frederick Alan Haney of Columbia Falls, MT and Kevin Patrick (wife:Christina) Haney of Orlando, FL; six grandchildren, two sisters, Sarah Haney Egan of New Castle and Grace Bundy Carter of Chesterfield; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond Haney, William Bundy III, and Junior Clinton Haney; four sisters, Irene Haney Downs, Mona Haney Couch, Nancy Haney Gilliam, and Corrine Haney. A Memorial Service honoring Walker’s life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 19, 2008 at Sproles Family Funeral Home. Masonic Rites will be provided by the New Castle Lodge #91, F. & A.M. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery in Knightstown with Military Honors provided by a contingent from the U.S. Air Force. Friends may visit the Haney family at the Sproles Family Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday.
